Looking for a Gitpod alternative?

Gitpod renamed itself Ona, turned to coding agents for enterprises, and has been part of OpenAI's Codex team since August 2026. If you used Gitpod to open a repository in the cloud from a link, pyrovue does that part, and installs and starts the project for you.

Moving over

What carries across.

Gitpod's habit of putting a link in front of a repository URL works the same way here: put pyrovue.com/ in front of github.com/OWNER/REPO. A .gitpod.yml isn't read, but most repos don't need a config at all; for the ones that do, the same commands go in a pyrovue.json.

If you used Gitpod as your daily editor, pyrovue is a lighter tool: a browser editor and terminal rather than a full IDE. If you used it to try projects, review pull requests or run demos, that is exactly what pyrovue is for.

From .gitpod.yml

The same commands, in pyrovue.json.

{
  "setup": ["npm install"],
  "start": "npm run dev",
  "port": 3000
}

init commands become setup, the command that serves the app becomes start, and the port you used to expose becomes port.

Questions

Asked often.

Gitpod became Ona, and Ona's own billing docs say new Core subscriptions are closed. Ona joined OpenAI when the deal closed on 10 August 2026. Check Ona's site for what your existing plan includes.

No. It reads package files, READMEs, Dockerfiles, dev containers, Procfiles and more, and pyrovue.json when you want to be explicit.
